Sinica Discusses China Bears and China’s Economy with Arthur Kroeber

The latest edition of the Sinica Podcast features Dragonomic’s Arthur Kroeber along with host Kaiser Kuo, Forbes Beijing Bureau Chief Gady Epstein, and yours truly. Kroeber, who first came to China almost 20 years ago, is one of the best observers of the Chinese economy. In addition to running the Dragonomics advisory service, he also publishes the China Economic Quarterly (the latest issue of which includes an essay I wrote on the Internet in China.)

We are not raging bulls on China, but we think that the Chinese economy is much more complex and resilient than the current crop of China Bears would have the world believe, and that the most likely outcome for China is not a crash but rather more of a “muddle-through”. However “The Coming Muddle Through of China” would not sell as either a book or a CNBC show.

This is a long podcast–61 minutes–and fortunately Kroeber does most of the talking. I would recommend anyone who has an interest in China and/or the global economy listen to this one. Kroeber is not a publicity hound like some of the China Bears, so this is a good chance to hear his very sophisticated and informed views of China’s economy.
