China’s Global Times Prints Map Of Middle East With “Holyland” Instead Of Israel

Perhaps the cause is something innocent like a lazy editor, but it is ironic considering China’s sensitivities to maps and territorial names. Or perhaps someone thinks that calling Israel “Holyland” will somehow appeal to everyone in the region?

The original Global Times article: 25 Chinese workers kidnapped in Egypt. H/T @imagethief for spotting this and posting to Twitter.

[UPDATE: McLatchy’s China Correspondent Tom Lasseter has discovered the source of this map–Atlastours.net, an Egyptian travel agency. The Global Times editor probably did a Google or Baidu image search and used the first map found. END UPDATE]
