"Sinocism is the Presidential Daily Brief for China hands"- Evan Osnos, New Yorker Correspondent and National Book Award Winner
I already blog at Digicha about Digital Media and the Internet in China and wanted a different forum to discuss broader issues related to China, hence this blog. I did my undergraduate and graduate work in Chinese economics (it was much simpler in those days) and politics before stumbling into digital media. “Sinocism”, while not a real word, evokes how I feel about China; on the hand I love a lot about the country, and am always impressed by what goes on here; on the other hand I am skeptical of much of the hype in the current mass discourse related to China. I hope that through this blog I can provide some useful and original insight.

You should not reveal your heart when that requires displaying your lack of a brain. How do you love a “country”? (Among other things you cheapen love.) You (and a million other sinologues) constantly pollute the intellectual air by speaking about “China” and “the Chinese” as if they can be hugged like your wife or child. I have not an iota of confidence that you will “provide some useful and original insight” and I resent Danwei.org for recommending that I look at this site. Do you dare publish this? Probably you can afford to do so because most readers of blogs swallow lines about loving countries and “being impressed by what goes on here” (an exceptionally–and deliberately, I assume–vacuous phrase). Funny that you should talk a big macho game of being “skeptical of much of the hype in the current mass discourse related to China” when you are generously contributing cart loads of the muck. Please, stop polluting.
